Electrical Design and Installation
Synchronised Power & Energy Solutions provides a complete electrical installation and testing service with a special focus energy efficiency and power solutions. Our installation service runs from complete electrical works from a building incomer to power and network socket installs. Our electrical service portfolio has been designed to support our clients and their energy efficiency and power solution projects. We can also provide electrical contractor services as a separate service.
Electrical Contractors
In the UK, electrical works are governed by government legislation and regulations. All electrical work, no matter what the building type (domestic, commercial, industrial, datacentre or public sector) has to be designed, undertaken, tested and certified by a suitably qualified electrical contractor or electrician.
The Synchronised Power & Energy Solutions team provides a complete electrical contracting service across the UK and Eire to support the wide variety of electrical projects we undertake. This allows Synchronised Power & Energy Solutions to provide ‘turn-key’ projects and individual installation works as required.
Our electrical installations service portfolio includes:
- Site surveys and electrical infrastructure assessments
- Fixed wire testing to meeting legislation and regulations
- Electrical installations as part of a new-build or retrofit for capacity or efficiency
- Electrical cabling works at the building, floor or individual room level
- Network installations including fixed CAT-cables and Wi-Fi for building systems including: IT servers, CCTV, access and security and environmental management
- Electrical system installation including upgrades for energy efficiency
- Server room and datacentre fit-outs including power, cooling and fire suppression
- Handover, system training and warranty registration for supplied systems
- Documentation including O&M manuals, schematics, third-party applications and certificate issue
- We provide a 24/7 electrical contracting service with emergency call out. A typical project can run during both normal and outside normal or weekend/bank holiday hours as required
Fixed Wire Testing
Fixed wire testing is also known as Periodic Testing and is a legal requirement for any building owner and organisation to ensure employee and visitor safety and checks electrical installations and systems for safety and must be carried out by a suitably qualified electrician or electrical contractor.
Electrical systems and installations will deteriorate over time with certain components requiring regular maintenance and consumable replacement. Regular testing and inspection and provides peace of mind to protect everyone concerned and demonstrates compliance to legal obligations to the necessary authorities and insurance companies. The relevant UK government legislation and regulations include:
- The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974: requires employers and employees to ensure the health and safety of everyone in the work premises (including visitors, contractors and the public, where applicable).
- The Management of Health and Safety Work Regulations 1999: puts the onus on the employer to perform adequate risk assessments to ensure the lowest level of danger for employees and ensure the safety of the workplace as far as is possible.
- The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998: requires the employer to ensure the safety of any equipment used by employers (including fixed, portable and transportable equipment) that relies on an electrical energy source.
- The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989: defines what constitutes electrical equipment and the maintenance and safety requirements for safe use of electricity in the workplace.
- British Standard BS 7671: 2015 Amendment 3 (IET Wiring Regulations): the current standard for electrical installation in the UK – due to be updated June 2018 to the 18th Edition. The IET co-publishes the Regulations with the British Standards Institution (BSI) and is the authority on electrical installation.
In addition to the need for legal compliance, commercial insurance companies are tending to request evidence that inspection and testing is carried out on a regular basis. It can be a criminal offence for the building owner if the electrical installation is found to be at fault following a fire or electrical system related incident. A failure to comply with legislation could also result in a negligence case.
Under the regulations each building type has its own testing interval. Corporate office type buildings are required to fixed wire test ever 5 years where as a public-sector building like a leisure centre requires testing every 3 years. The difference is due to the environmental differences as a humid environment can lead to quicker insulation corrosion and electrical system damage than a more controlled and dry one in an office complex.
Onsite Power Solutions
We are specialist electrical contractors in terms of understanding how to improve energy efficiency and design and install energy storage and resilient power protection systems including uninterruptible power supplies and standby power generators.
In addition to our electrical installation services (which cover both AC and DC voltages) we also provide emergency service covers for number of manufacturers as certified service engineers including battery testing, replacement and eco-friendly disposal.
