How energy efficient are small UPS systems?

Smaller UPS systems below 10kVA in size are typically used within office environments to protect IT network servers and their local area networks. On-line UPS around 5-10kVA typically achieve an energy efficiency of around 95% or greater in on-line mode and up to 98% or more if they have an Eco line interactive mode. Smaller UPS tend (below 5kVA) tend to be less energy efficient and may be on-line, line interactive or even standby models. The size of the UPS and its rating will have little impact on overall energy efficiency in a medium to large office environment. Even in a small office, the losses from the UPS will be negligible.
