Would you use a UPS to protect EPoS terminals?

EPoS stands for Electronic Point of Sale and is a term used to describe check-out kiosk terminals in supermarkets and other retail outlets. Some EPoS terminals require a UPS system to protect their data when there is a power outage. For such an application a small off-line or line interactive UPS would be used. This would generally be a small tower or desktop unit with an internal lead acid battery. Wall mount UPS are also available from some UPS manufacturers. The latest development is compact UPS using lithium-ion batteries which offer similar runtimes to lead acid but with far quicker charge/discharge cycles and longer design lives.
